Overview:
The Paraprofessional will serve as additional support for Credential Special Education Teachers. The Paraprofessional will work collaboratively with teachers and specialists to assess and support students’ academic progress. They will promote safe behaviors and foster social development for all students. This is a part-time, in-person position at various school sites across Orange County. As a positive role model, coach, and mentor, the Paraprofessional plays a key role in creating a supportive and engaging learning environment. A strong commitment to student growth, development, and well-being is essential. Success in this role requires leadership, effective communication, and, most importantly, patience to establish trust and stability for students. By providing a supportive and structured environment, the Paraprofessional helps ensure that the students served by CaliCoast achieve academic and personal goals.
Day Responsibilities:
○ Support students within the general education classroom, and in small groups or 1:1 sessions outside of the general education classroom.
○ Will support in the implementation of lesson plans, prepare instructional support materials for small groups and support, guide small groups, and provide learning assistance and individualized support to students in Special Education and with 504 support plans.
○ Will develop appropriate accommodations or support in the development of accommodations for general education assignments and assessments.
○ Will support providing direct input and progress monitoring to support IEP planning and development.
○ Paraprofessional will document the progress of students, track service minutes provided, implement grade checks with focus groups and support with student and family communication.
○ Perform clerical duties such as, preparing necessary materials, operating office equipment, making and answering phone calls as necessary and keeping to a schedule.
○ Serve as a positive adult role model for children in the program through appropriate dress, speech, and attitude.
○ Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging that kids want to be in.
○ Support students in making positive behavior choices and take disciplinary measures when appropriate.
○ Identify student needs and communicate to Credential Special Education Teachers, teachers, school administration and parents, as appropriate.
○ Participate in staff development
After-School Support Responsibilities:
• Provide after-school homework assistance, academic enrichment and physical activity
• Work directly with a group of 20-25 students in a classroom setting during after-school hours implementing classroom and behavior management strategies.
• Assist daily with snacks during after-school hours.
• Assist in set up, break down, and ongoing maintenance to keep the school or community site clean and orderly.
• Maintain student safety by taking roll and reviewing sign-in/sign-outs for students activities.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• High School Diploma or G.E.D. Required.
•48 semester/60 quarter units and/or pass a pre-employment test.
• Ability to speak and write Standard English appropriate in a public-school setting.
• Must pass Live Scan (criminal background check via fingerprinting)
• Provide a negative TB Test.
• Experience working with a group of 10 or more students in a classroom, afterschool, or recreation environment.
• Advanced Math and English skills (K–12)
• Excellent communication skills (Written and Verbal)
• Support our English-learner population by being bi-literate (Spanish preferred)
